Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

The first step in getting the help you need is to speak with one of our trusted and experienced Amarillo criminal defense lawyers. The purpose of this initial consultation is for our lawyer to learn about and evaluate your situation so we can accurately explain your rights and legal options. During this process, we’ll be asking you a lot of questions about your case, past legal history, and the circumstances leading up to your arrest.

What kind of penalties could I be facing?

Depending on the circumstances of your case, you may be charged with a misdemeanor or a felony. While the penalties vary, they can include:

  • Jail time ranging from months to years
  • Extensive fines
  • Suspension of drivers license
  • Seizing of property like your car, house, and other assets

Is THC the same as Marijuana?

While marijuana and THC may not seem to be very different from each other, Texas law specifically distinguishes between them. Possession of THC has much harsher penalties than possession of marijuana. Under Texas law, THC is a controlled substance, meaning you cannot legally possess any amount. Individuals found with less than one gram of THC will be charged with a state jail felony. Anyone found with up to four grams will be charged with a third-degree felony, and possession of more than four grams but less than four hundred grams is a second-degree felony. Individuals convicted of possession of THC can face multiple years in prison and up to $50,000 in fines.

Hired Robyn Nance on a recommendation from a coworker for a criminal defense for my son. Robyn was the consummate professional. She handled the case quickly, communicated throughout the process, and acted with complete integrity. The case was dismissed thanks to Robyn's efforts. If you need a trusted lawyer in Texas who is fair with cost and quick with results, I highly recommend Robyn and her firm.

Robyn was a blessing! I traveled 2000 miles for my court date and my court appointed attorney didn't bother to show up. Robyn stepped in and handled my plea agreement. If your freedom is on the line Robyn should be your first call.
